Fun Facts About the Cashew

I know, I know. How exciting can a cashew get? Truth is, very.



You may have many questions swirling around your head at the moment, but the first one I'm going to address is why this article is in the nature category. You see, today we're going to be talking about the growth of the cashew, which has more to do with nature than it has to do with food, at least in my opinion. And you're probably still wondering why I'm talking about the cashew, of all boring things, instead of something cool. Well, if you won't believe me the first time, then why should you believe me the second? I assure you, there's something good coming, but you'll have to wait and see.


Here are some quick and basic fun facts:


  • National Cashew Day is November 23rd.

  • National Chocolate Covered Cashew Day is April 21st.

  • Cashews are from the same family as poison ivy, so that's why they aren't sold with their shells on.

  • The US consumes 90% of the world's cashew crop.


Now it's time for the fun stuff! Did you know that cashews actually grow out of cashew apples? It's crazy! You have got to see pictures, it's just fantastic! I mean, cashew apples! When you see them you'll know why I was excited. Here are some pics:
