Parvani's August Book Recommendations

We have included a list of books that are sure to make this month more exciting!

This month's recommendations:

  • The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin

You may not have heard of The Westing Game, but that doesn't make it bad. The story is about a seemingly random group of people, all living in the same building. At first all is well, until they realize that there's a murderer in their midst! Not just a murderer, though. A bomber, crook, and a mistake. Someone there didn't belong.

  • The Parker Inheritance by Varian Johnson

Before you read this review, you have to know that this book talks about The Westing Game a lot. If I were you, I would read that before this. Anyway, let's get to the story. Candice Miller is spending the summer in a place called Lambert, when she finds a mysterious letter in her attic. The letter speaks of a great injustice, and it's up to Candice to make things right. She teams up with the boy across the street, but as their time is running out, Candice worries that they'll never be able to get to the end of the puzzle. A 2019 Coretta Scott King Honor Book, The Parker Inheritance is not easy to be solved.

  • The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman

This book is the first in a series of three. You start off with Lyra, a girl living in a college. When her uncle comes to visit, the world turns on its head, and she isn't sure what to think. Lyra realizes she must do something and goes off on the adventure of a lifetime! Philip Pullman has carefully crafted all three of the books in this series to be full of different concepts and ideas that I have not seen so vividly displayed anywhere else. Full of adventure and excitement, this series sure to rock your world!
